Interview with Danielle Firle

What is your favorite way to unwind at home?

My favorite way to unwind at home is with a good glass of wine and a proper cheese board with my husband. That or a long hot bath, typically with a glass of wine still involved :)

What do you like to keep out on your kitchen countertop or "kitchen selfie"?

My kitchen is fairly small, so I like to keep my countertops as minimal as possible. Next to my stove, I have a simple small marble tray with a bottle of olive oil and cellar of salt on it!

What does living in a golden state meant to you?

To me, living in a golden state means similar to what my company, Secret Supper is all about: Finding beauty in the everyday and pinpointing the extraordinary in the routine.

If you could host a dinner party at home and invite 3 guests, who would they be, what would you serve and what music would play in the background?

Oh goodness, this is so difficult to choose! There are so many directions/themes when thinking of who to pick! 1. Martha Stewart 2. Massimo Bottura 3. Mindy Kaling. Cooking for Martha and Massimo would be so scary - so I would keep things simple with really fantastic ingredients to do the talking for me. A simple burrata caprese with a fantastic olive oil and fresh heirloom tomatoes would definitely be on the menu. I imagine a playlist heavy with Louis Armstrong would fit the mood perfectly.

If you had all the time in the world, what meal would you cook for yourself on a Sunday night?

Homemade gnocchi with a truffle creme sauce. I had this handmade in Florence a few years back and dream of it often! I think making my own pasta in general would be something I would love to do more often if I had all the time in the world!

Grilled Peach and Burrata Salad

Ingredients

  • 8 oz burrata cheese
  • 2-3 peaches
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar reduction
  • 3 cups arugula
  • Salt + pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup of Brightland ALIVE olive oil

Instructions

  • 1 Heat the grill on medium heat. Slice the peaches in half and remove pit.
  • 2 Brush the cut side of the peaches with Brightland's ALIVE. Then, grill the peach slices for 2-3 minutes on each side, until you have grill marks.
  • 3 To assemble the salad, add the arugula on a serving platter along with the peach halves. Add the burrata. Drizzle with Brightland, balsamic reduction and salt and pepper. Feel free to also sprinkle some pine nuts, pistachios or whatever seed you might have for a little crunch if desired.
